The Koilon

The Grid’s live theatre: theatre, stand-up, late night, talk shows, seminars, panels and music on a real stage, 308 seats in the stalls, the dress circle and the boxes — and online on your TV.

The Grid is a free 3D city you walk through in your web browser, made by The Multimedia Studio. No download and no account needed: walk in as a guest and explore a two-level mall, a four-screen cinema, a university campus, office and apartment towers, a racing game, an arcade, escape rooms and a waterfront.

On stage

Nothing is on sale yet — companies are booking the stage. Walk in to see the marquee, or put on your own show below.

Going to a show

  1. Walk into the Grid — as a guest, nothing to download — and head for the marquee on the back road; any wayfinding kiosk shows the way.
  2. Get tickets at the box office under the marquee, or from the phone’s Koilon app: pick a performance, then your seats on the chart.
  3. The house opens half an hour before curtain. Walk in, find your row and take your seat; the house goes quiet when the show starts.
  4. Laugh, applaud, cheer or gasp with everyone else — and raise your hand when the stage asks the audience.

Watching online

When a company streams its show, an online ticket puts it on your home’s or your office’s TV in the Grid, or full screen in your browser, live with the house. Shows the company records can be watched again for 30 days — by the company, by the night’s audience or by anyone with a ticket, as the company chooses.

Put on your own show

Theatre companies, comedians, hosts, speakers and bands rent the stage by the hour: C$15 an hour for a show, C$5 an hour to rehearse, with a free rehearsal hour for every two show hours. Book once or every week; the theatre’s team approves each booking, then you pay and your shows go on sale.

Where it is

On the back road of the Grid, along from UniverseT: the marquee with its three white letter boards and the big poster of the night’s headline show. The taxi drops you round the corner on its west side.
