The agreement for briefs, rentals in the Grid, advertising, tickets and everything you can buy on The Multimedia Studio. Last updated October 23, 2026.
The short version
You must be 16 to have an account, and 18 to pay or be paid.
Clients pay a brief in two halves. Each is held on the card, not charged, until the work reaches that point. TMS keeps 10% of what the creative is paid.
A client owns the final work once the brief is paid in full.
Rentals are paid up front for a fixed term and never renew on their own.
Ontario law applies, and nothing here takes away your rights under Ontario’s consumer protection law.
About these terms
These terms are the agreement between you and The Multimedia Studio (“TMS”, “we”, “us”) for everything on app.multimedia.studio: the briefs marketplace, the Creative Hub, The Grid, Griddles and UniverseT. Where a part applies only to some people — clients, creatives, renters, advertisers — its heading says so.
TMS is The Multimedia Studio, a company based in Ontario, Canada. Email: info@multimedia.studio. GST/HST registration number: 794246884RT0001.
By creating an account, or by using The Grid as a guest, you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use TMS.
Before some purchases we show a short version of the rules that matter most — a ticket’s refund rule, a brief’s terms. The short versions summarise these terms. If a short version and these terms ever differ, the one that is better for you applies.
Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and why. It is part of these terms.
Where these terms say “consumer”, they mean someone using TMS for personal, family or household purposes, as Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act, 2002 uses the word. A client or advertiser acting for a business is not a consumer.
Your account
Kinds of account
Creatives (talent) show their work and take briefs.
Clients post briefs and hire creatives.
Explorers have The Grid’s own accounts.
UniverseT students and faculty have accounts for UniverseT.
Guests visit The Grid without an account. A guest can look around and watch, for a limited time, but can’t buy, rent or post.
Who can use TMS
You must be at least 16 to have an account. To pay for anything, post or take a brief, rent a space, advertise, or be paid through TMS, you must be 18 or older (the age of majority in Ontario) and able to make a binding contract.
If you use TMS for a company or another organisation, you confirm you may act for it, and “you” includes it.
Keeping your account yours
Give true information, and keep it up to date.
One person per account. Don’t share your sign-in or let anyone else use your account.
Keep your password safe. You are responsible for what happens under your account unless someone got in through no fault of yours. Tell us at once if you think someone has.
New accounts may be reviewed by a person before they can be used. We may decline an account.
Rules for everyone
These apply everywhere on TMS: briefs and their chats, the Hub, The Grid’s voice and chat, your store, home or office, and anything else you post, say or show.
Treat people with respect. No harassment, threats, bullying, hate or discrimination, including on any ground in Ontario’s Human Rights Code.
Nothing sexual involving anyone under 18, ever. No sexual content in The Grid’s public places, and nothing that exploits or endangers anyone.
Don’t record, stream or share other people’s voice, video, messages or private spaces without their consent.
Don’t pretend to be someone else, or misrepresent who you are or who you work for.
Nothing illegal: no selling illegal or restricted goods, no fraud, scams, pyramid schemes or money laundering.
Only upload what you own or have permission to use.
No spam, no unwanted bulk messages, no misleading links.
Don’t break or get around how TMS works: no bots, scraping, cheating, exploiting bugs, entering a home, office or other private space you weren’t invited into, malware, overloading our servers, or getting around a suspension or a block.
Don’t collect other people’s personal information without their permission.
If you see something wrong, report it in the app or through the Help Desk. To enforce these rules we may remove content, end a call or chat, move someone out of a private space, or suspend an account (see Suspension and closing an account).
Your content and ours
You own what you make and upload: portfolio work, posts, pitches, deliverables, store artwork, products, films, ad artwork.
You give TMS a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, resize, convert, display and stream your content, only to run, show and improve TMS — for example to show your portfolio to clients, play your film in the cinema or put your store’s artwork in The Grid. Content you make public, such as a public portfolio page you switch on, can be seen by anyone, and search engines may list it. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies the law or a dispute requires us to keep, and for what other people have already received (such as a brief’s delivered files).
We review some content before it goes live (store names, artwork, products, ads, films, pitches and deliverables), and we may refuse or remove content that breaks these terms. A review is not a promise that content is lawful; that stays your responsibility.
TMS itself — the app, The Grid and every building, vehicle and object in it, our software, designs, names and logos — belongs to us or to those who license it to us. Use it only through TMS, as it is meant to be used. Don’t copy, sell, extract or reverse engineer it.
If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them without owing you anything.
AI features
Some features use AI, including Clover, the brief assistant and The Grid’s AI personas. AI can be wrong: check anything important before you rely on it. Clover can find and explain things for you, but it never pays for anything.
Copyright complaints
If you believe something on TMS infringes your copyright, send the details to info@multimedia.studio and we will look into it promptly.
Paying TMS
Price and currency. You see the price, its currency and what it covers before you pay. Most prices in The Grid are in US dollars. A brief is in the currency the client chooses (Canadian dollars unless they pick another). Rent and Featured hours paid through Square are in Canadian dollars, with Square’s processing fee included in the price. Your bank may add its own currency conversion fee.
Taxes. Our prices include GST/HST where it applies, so the price shown at checkout is the total you pay. Ask us for a receipt showing the tax if your business needs one.
Who processes payments. Payments go through Stripe or Square. We never see or store your full card number. Creatives are paid through Stripe and accept Stripe’s Connected Account Agreement when they set up payouts.
Holds. Some payments are held on your card before they are charged: a brief’s deposit and final payment, an ad booking, a Griddles food order. A hold becomes a charge only when the step described for that item happens, and is released if it doesn’t. Card holds lapse after about 7 days, so we may charge a brief’s held payment before then to keep it; the money still isn’t released to the creative until the work is approved.
Receipts. We email a receipt for every payment. Ask us any time for a copy of these terms as they stood when you paid.
Mistakes. If a price is clearly wrong because of an error, we may cancel the purchase and refund it in full before we provide it.
Charge disputes. If a charge looks wrong, contact us first; we can usually fix it faster than a bank dispute. While a payment is disputed with your bank, we may pause what it paid for. This doesn’t limit any right Ontario law gives you to ask your card issuer to reverse a charge.
Credits and offers. Goodwill credits, discounts, welcome offers and free passes have no cash value, can’t be transferred or exchanged for money, and expire as stated when given. A welcome offer can be used once, by the person it was sent to.
No in-game money. TMS has no coins, tokens or other virtual currency. You pay only in real money, for the particular thing you choose.
Refunds. The refund rules for everything you can buy are in Refunds at a glance. A refund goes back to the card or account you paid with and usually takes 5–10 business days to appear.
Briefs: how they work
A brief is a piece of work a client posts — a job, a project or a request for help — with its budget, deliverables and dates. TMS reviews each brief before it goes live, proposes or shortlists creatives, reviews the work, and holds and releases the payments.
The agreement
When a creative confirms a brief and the client pays the deposit, the client and the creative have an agreement for the work the brief describes, on these terms. TMS is not the employer of either. We take the client’s payments and pay the creative as the creative’s payment agent: once the client has paid TMS, the client has paid the creative that amount.
Creatives work as independent contractors. Each creative is responsible for their own income tax and any GST/HST registration. A brief’s budget is the full amount the client pays for the work.
The money
The client pays the budget in two halves: a 50% deposit when the brief starts and the 50% final payment at the end. In a brief with a pitch, the pitch pool comes off the budget first and the halves are of what is left.
TMS’s fee is 10% of each payment, taken from the creative’s side. The client pays the budget and nothing on top. The creative receives 90% of each payment, after the card processor’s fee for it.
The deposit is held on the client’s card when paid. It is charged, and the creative paid their share, when TMS approves the first final deliverable. The final payment is then requested and held, and charged — with the creative paid their share — when the client marks the brief complete.
A creative needs a verified Stripe payout account before a client can pay.
Nominations and pitches
A creative nominated for a brief has 24 hours to confirm. They may ask once for 24 more hours if the brief starts at least 4 days later. If they don’t confirm in time, the nomination lapses and the client can nominate someone else.
In a pitch, the client pays a pitch pool (up to 20% of the budget) to have shortlisted creatives make pitch pieces. Each pitch TMS approves earns its creative 90% of one slot’s share of the pool, after card fees. A shortlisted creative who doesn’t submit earns half of that when the client chooses a winner. A pitch TMS rejects earns nothing. The client chooses what happens to the share of slots nobody used: a refund, a bonus for the winner, or a raise to the winner’s budget.
Changes and approvals
Deliverables are reviewed by TMS before they reach the client. The client may ask for changes within the brief’s scope; TMS reviews each request. Work beyond the brief — new deliverables, a new direction, more time — needs a change to the brief and its budget that both agree to.
Reviews
When a brief is complete, the client may review the creative (1–5 stars and a comment) and edit the review for 15 days. Reviews must be honest and about the work.
Keeping it on TMS
Keep a brief’s conversation, files and payments on TMS. If a client and a creative meet through a brief, any paid work between them in the 12 months after it ends goes through TMS too. Moving it elsewhere to avoid the fee can lead to suspension.
Briefs: for clients
Describe the work truly and completely: deliverables, dates, references, and any rules it must follow (brand guidelines, legal requirements, whether AI tools may be used).
Have the rights to anything you give the creative to use — logos, photos, footage, music — and be responsible for the claims the finished work makes about your products and services.
Answer questions and give feedback in reasonable time. Delays on your side can move the dates.
Pay as the brief goes. You own the final work only once the brief is paid in full (see Who owns the work).
In a pitch, you may use only the winning pitch. The other pitch pieces stay their creatives’ work.
Briefs: for creatives
Confirm only briefs you can deliver on the dates given. Once you confirm, you are committed to the scope and the dates.
Deliver original work you have the right to hand over. Don’t copy other people’s work or use unlicensed fonts, music, stock or footage, and don’t use AI tools where the brief rules them out.
If your work includes other people’s material (stock, fonts, templates, samples), tell the client, and make sure its licence covers the client’s use.
Tell the client and TMS straight away if anything could affect the dates or the deliverables.
Keep the client’s information and unreleased work confidential.
A pitch piece stays yours unless it wins; the winning pitch becomes part of the brief’s work.
Payouts go to your Stripe account. Stripe’s and your bank’s timings and fees are theirs.
Briefs: who owns the work
The final deliverables. Once the client has paid the brief in full, the creative assigns to the client all copyright in the final deliverables made for the brief, and waives their moral rights in them (Canada’s Copyright Act lets an author waive moral rights, but not assign them). The client may then use, change and publish them as they wish. Until then the client may only review the work.
What the creative already had. Tools, templates, techniques, stock and earlier work the creative uses stay theirs. The creative gives the client a permanent, non-exclusive licence to use them as part of the deliverables they are built into.
Drafts and options. Unless the brief says otherwise, drafts, alternatives and files not delivered as final stay the creative’s.
The client’s materials stay the client’s, and the creative uses them only for the brief.
Portfolio. The creative may show the work in their portfolio once the client has made it public, unless the brief says it is confidential.
Something else agreed. Different rights written into the brief — for example a licence for a limited use or time — apply instead of these.
Confidentiality. Both keep the other’s non-public information (unreleased products, files, prices, personal details) confidential, and use it only for the brief — during the brief and after it.
Briefs: cancelling, refunds and disputes
Before the deposit. Either side can step away and nothing is charged.
The client cancels after paying the deposit, before the creative has submitted any work: the deposit is refunded in full, or its hold released.
The client cancels after the creative has submitted work: the deposit is not refunded — it pays the creative for the work started. The final payment isn’t charged, unless TMS had already approved final deliverables, in which case it is owed.
The creative cancels, stops responding or doesn’t deliver what the brief describes: the client gets back everything not yet paid out to the creative, and TMS will look for another creative if the client wants one. If TMS refunds a client for a creative’s failure to deliver, it may take back what it paid that creative.
TMS ends a brief (for example for a breach of these terms): we decide a fair split of what has been paid, based on the work done, and explain it to both.
The pitch pool isn’t refunded once the pitch is live, except the share of unused slots, as the client chooses.
Disputes. The client or the creative can open a dispute from the brief. A person reads it, looks at the brief, the chat and the files, and decides: release the payment, refund it in full or in part, or split it. We aim to decide within 10 business days. Our decision settles the matter on TMS, but doesn’t take away anyone’s right to go to court.
Renting a space in The Grid
You can rent stores (in the towers, on the high street, in the Galleria, the Orbit and Park Row), Night Market stalls and food trucks, homes and offices, and — for UniverseT students — residences. A rental is a licence to use a virtual space in The Grid for a fixed term. It is not a lease of real property, and Ontario’s residential and commercial tenancy laws don’t apply to it.
Who can rent
Anyone with a creative, client or explorer account; guests can’t rent. Residences are for UniverseT students with an active enrolment. A suspended account can’t rent or extend.
Terms, price and payment
Stores, stalls and trucks rent for a week, a month, 3 months or a year. Homes and offices rent for a month, 3 months or a year.
One payment, in advance, covers the whole term. The price is shown before you pay and is fixed for that term; a later price change applies only if you extend.
Rentals never renew on their own, and we don’t keep your card to charge it again.
A space is held for you for 30 minutes while you pay.
When the term ends
We email you before the end (30, 14 and 3 days ahead for a year; 14, 7 and 3 for 3 months; 7 and 3 for a month; 3 for a week). To keep the space, extend before it ends: the new term starts when the old one ends, at the price then. When a term ends the space closes at once:
a store goes back to its building’s default, and your artwork and products stop showing — they are kept, and come back if you rent again;
an office’s drive files and whiteboards are kept for 30 days, then deleted;
a home’s furniture arrangement is reset.
Your store
Store names, artwork, objects and products are reviewed by an admin before they show. A new store shows “Coming soon” until you set its hours or set it live.
You are responsible for what you sell and say in your store, including following consumer, product-safety and advertising law.
Sales from your store are between you and your customer. When you connect your own Square account, payments go to you and TMS takes nothing from them. TMS is not the seller and isn’t responsible for your products, delivery or refunds — tell your customers your own refund policy.
Some spots are kept for brands we place there and aren’t for rent.
Homes and offices
A home is private. Only people you invite can come in, up to the home’s capacity, and you can have up to 3 co-hosts. You are responsible for your guests while they are in your home, and you can ask anyone to leave.
An office holds its team and visitors up to the numbers shown. Each office rental includes one free move to a vacant office at the same price; further moves are up to us.
Free passes and goodwill offices
We sometimes give a space free for a set time. It can be ended if these terms are broken, and there is nothing to refund.
Changes around you
The Grid keeps changing — neighbours, streets, buildings. If we have to move or change your space during your term, we give you an equal or better one for the rest of it, or refund the unused part.
Rental refunds
Changing your mind. Within 48 hours of paying for a new rental, and before you have opened it (a store still showing “Coming soon”; a home or office you haven’t invited anyone into), cancel it from its page and we’ll refund it in full and end the rental. Extensions and free spaces aren’t covered.
Cancelling after that. You can cancel a paid rental at any time from its page. You keep the space until the end of the part of your term you are in — the day on a weekly rental, the week on a monthly one, the month on a quarterly or yearly one (a calendar month for a home or an office, four weeks for a store) — and we refund the rest of what you paid for that term, prorated, less the card fee our payment processor kept. An extension that hasn’t started yet is refunded in full, less its card fee. A refund under $1 isn’t sent.
When it’s on us. If we end your rental for any reason other than a breach of these terms, or can’t provide the space, it ends that day and we refund the unused whole days, less the card fee. If your payment arrived after someone else had taken the space, we refund it in full. If The Grid is unavailable for more than 72 hours in a row, we add the lost days to your term.
A breach. If we end a rental because these terms were broken, there is no refund.
Cinema screens and studio rooms
Renting a cinema screen
You rent a number of showings a day for a day, a week, a month (30 days) or 3 months (90 days). The cinema decides which of its houses plays each showing.
You must own the film or have the right to show it publicly. The film, its title, poster and credits are reviewed before it plays; once it is live, changes need our approval, because people have bought seats on the strength of them.
You set the ticket price, from free up to the cap shown. TMS keeps 20% of paid tickets and the rest goes to your Stripe payout account.
Ending early. You can end a run early: the unused whole days from tomorrow are refunded, less the card fee (2.9% + 30¢). Days already played aren’t refunded. Everyone holding a ticket for a cancelled showing is refunded in full. A run given free has nothing to refund.
Taking a film down. We may take down anything we can’t legally or decently show. If we do and you didn’t break these terms, your unused days are refunded.
Booking a studio room
Creatives can book rooms in the TMS studio for free: 30 minutes to 4 hours (8 for the Board and Viewing rooms), up to 14 days ahead, 3 upcoming bookings at a time. Cancel whenever you like. If we need a room you booked, we may move your booking, and give you a free office for 3 months for the trouble.
Advertising in The Grid
Ad space includes panels in the Galleria and around The Grid, bus stops, buses and taxis, the Orbit’s crown, The Grid Gazette, the Wheel’s cabins and — for creatives only — the skyway’s mural walls. Creative, client and explorer accounts can book.
Price and booking
Ads are priced per placement per day, as shown when you book, less any discounts (longer runs, more panels, renting the shop behind a panel), which together never take off more than 35%.
A run lasts 1–90 days, starts tomorrow at the earliest and can be booked up to 180 days ahead. Mural walls are booked by the whole week.
Charged only once approved
Paying holds the amount on your card; nothing is charged until your ad is approved. We aim to review within 48 hours. If your ad is approved, the run is charged — and if the review finishes after your start date, only for the days still to run. If it is rejected, or not reviewed while the hold lasts (about 7 days), the hold is released and nothing is charged.
What your ad may show
Your ad must be truthful and lawful, including the Competition Act’s rules against misleading advertising and the Canadian Code of Advertising Standards, and you must own or have the rights to everything in it. We don’t accept:
misleading claims, adult content, hate, or impersonation;
weapons, drugs, gambling, or political and issue ads;
artwork that flashes more than 3 times a second, has too much text, or is poor quality;
links that aren’t https, use a link shortener, or go to a private address.
We may reject any ad. We may remove a running ad that breaks these rules or the law; an ad removed for that reason isn’t refunded. New artwork for an approved ad is reviewed before it replaces the old one.
Views and results
Views are counted by us: a person in front of the panel, facing it, for at least 2 seconds, once per person every 30 minutes; your own looks don’t count. You can see your views, time in sight, opens and clicks each day. Estimates are a guide, not a promise: we don’t guarantee views, clicks or sales. If a placement can’t run for reasons on our side, we add free days to your run or refund those days.
Cancelling an ad
While it is in review: free — the hold is released.
Approved but not started: refunded, less the card fee (2.9% + 30¢).
Once it has started: contact us; we can end it and refund the days that haven’t run, less the card fee.
Ads we give free can’t be cancelled by you and have nothing to refund.
Featured hours on Griddles
Restaurants listed on Griddles can buy Featured hours: priced per hour per city, at most 3 restaurants an hour, booked up to 56 days ahead, and charged when booked. Featured hours aren’t refundable once booked, unless we can’t show them — then we refund those hours.
If you advertise for a business, you are responsible for your ads and will cover our reasonable costs if someone makes a claim against us because of them.
Tickets, games and things you buy
Cinema tickets
Every showing needs a ticket, the free ones included; one seat per person per showing.
Cancel 24 hours or more before the showing for a full refund, or move to another showing of the same film.
Inside 24 hours you can move your ticket; if no other showing is left, half the ticket comes back.
If you don’t come, half the ticket comes back.
If the screen’s renter cancels the showing, or we take the film down, you are refunded in full — and when we take a film down, there is money off your next ticket too.
Lockworks escape rooms
Priced per person, by room. Cancel 24 hours or more ahead for a full refund. Inside 24 hours you can move to another slot; if none is left, half comes back. If we cancel, you are refunded in full.
Rewind Video and the Library
Rent a film or series for the time you choose (from a day to 30 days), or buy it to keep. Films and series play on the TVs in a home or office you rent.
Borrow a paid book for 14 days (3 at a time), or buy it to keep.
A film or series you buy stays in your Rewind library for as long as Rewind carries it. If we withdraw a title, rentals run to their end and buyers keep it for 30 more days. If we have to remove a title at once, everyone who paid for it is refunded.
A book you buy is yours to keep, and a loan runs to its end even if we stop offering the book. If we have to remove a book entirely, everyone who paid for it is refunded.
Payments are final once you have the title, except that we refund automatically if you already had it or it was removed before you got it, and once if it won’t play and we can’t fix it.
What you rent or buy is for your own viewing and reading in The Grid. Don’t record, copy or share it.
UniverseT courses and programmes
Payment is taken when you enrol. Ask UniverseT admissions through the Help Desk within 14 days of enrolling, before you have finished a quarter of the course, for a full refund; after that, refunds are up to admissions.
Food from Griddles restaurants
An order is between you and the restaurant. You pay the restaurant directly, through its own payment account, and TMS takes nothing. Your card is held until the restaurant accepts the order, and released if it doesn’t accept within 10 minutes. Refunds, food, allergens and delivery are the restaurant’s responsibility; tell us if something goes wrong and we’ll help.
Store products and brand stores
Products in renters’ stores are sold by the store’s owner, under their own refund policy. Brand stores take you to the brand’s own site, where its terms apply; we may earn a commission.
Free games and rides
The Backlot, the Raceway, the Wheel, taxis, buses, music and The Grid’s other games are free. Scores and leaderboards are for fun and have no value; we may remove scores made by cheating or exploiting a bug.

24 hours or more ahead: in full, or move it to another performance. Inside 24 hours: move it, or half back if no other performance is left. Performance called off: in full. An online ticket: in full until the performance starts.
Free passes, goodwill offices, credits
Nothing to refund; no cash value.
To ask for a refund, use the cancel button on the ticket, booking or brief where there is one, or contact us through the Help Desk or at info@multimedia.studio.
Where Ontario law gives you a right to cancel or to a refund — for example if we didn’t give you the information the law requires before an online purchase, or didn’t provide what you paid for — you have that right as well as this table.
Suspension and closing an account
We may suspend an account — you can still sign in and see your work, but can’t post, start or take on briefs, or rent a space — or remove it, if you break these terms, if the law requires it, or to protect people on TMS. Unless a breach is serious or repeated, we tell you why and give you a chance to respond.
If we remove an account for a breach, its rentals, bookings and ads end without a refund. Money owed to a creative for work already approved is still paid.
You can close your account at any time from “Your data” in your settings, or by asking us. Closing it ends its rentals, bookings, tickets and ads without a refund, so use or cancel them first. A brief in progress must be finished or cancelled under the brief rules first. We keep what the law and our Privacy Policy require.
If we stop offering something you have paid for before its end, we refund the unused part.
The affiliate program
Approved accounts may apply to the TMS affiliate program and earn commissions for bringing new people to TMS. The affiliate agreement sets its rules; these terms still apply to every affiliate’s account.
If you sign up through an affiliate’s link or code, that affiliate earns a commission from TMS on what you pay for in your first 12 months. It costs you nothing and changes no price. The affiliate sees that someone they referred signed up and what kind of thing earned them a commission — never your name or account. Before you sign up you can remove the invitation from the sign-up form.
The Mouseion and the Auctionarium
The Mouseion
The Mouseion is free to visit. Its works are public-domain pieces shown from the open collections of the museums that hold them, each credited to that museum. A few works whose images a country’s heritage law protects aren’t shown to visitors from that country; another work takes their place.
Renting a hall
Anyone with a creative, client or explorer account can rent a hall in the Gallery House for 1 to 12 weeks, booked up to six months ahead and paid in advance (the dates are held for 30 minutes while you pay). Four weeks or more costs 10% less. A hall rental never renews on its own.
Show only your own work, or work you have the right to show. Every work is checked before the show opens, and a work that breaks these terms can be refused or taken down. Ask for anything special through your booking: we set the hall up that way where we can.
Outside your dates the hall is closed. Your works are taken down when the show ends, and their pictures are deleted 30 days later.
You arrange your hall in the hall planner, a copy of it, starting from a layout or from an empty hall; your show opens as you arrange it. Only works that have been checked go up, and only works you have put in the hall (when you arrange it yourself). A hall we give you free works the same way for its dates.
You can cancel a booking from its page, before or during the show: what comes back is in Refunds at a glance. A show that closes early gives every ticket sold for it back in full, from your share and ours alike.
Tickets to a show
A renter can charge entry to their show: they set the price, in their own currency, and need a Stripe payout account to do it. The show is free to visit otherwise.
A ticket is for one account and lets you in as often as you like until the show closes. You pay by card, and the money goes to the renter’s Stripe account, less TMS’s share (20% unless the show’s page says otherwise). The renter sells the ticket; TMS takes the payment and keeps its share.
Where the renter isn’t registered for GST/HST, TMS adds and collects the sales tax due on a ticket bought from Canada. A renter who is registered charges it themselves, inside their price.
Tickets are final, except that if a show is cancelled before it ends every ticket to it is refunded in full.
Selling pieces in your show
With a Stripe payout account you can put works in your show up for sale: physical pieces (the original, or an edition) and digital pieces (a file the buyer downloads). You set the price in your own currency and, for a physical piece, what posting it costs and how soon you post it (30 days at most).
You sell the piece; TMS takes the payment and keeps its share — 10% of the price unless your booking’s page says otherwise, none of the postage. The rest is paid into your Stripe account as each sale is made.
You post physical pieces yourself, packed with care and with tracking where the carrier offers it, and mark them posted with the tracking. TMS never handles, stores or posts a piece. A digital piece is the file you give us; it is checked before it goes on sale, and buyers can download it until 30 days after your show closes.
You must own what you sell and have the right to sell it, and describe it truthfully. Where you aren’t registered for GST/HST, TMS adds and collects the sales tax due on a piece bought from Canada; a renter who is registered charges it themselves, inside their price.
Buying a piece from a show
You buy the piece from the artist who shows it; TMS takes the payment and keeps its share. A physical piece is posted to you by the artist, who sees the delivery address you give to do it; a digital piece is downloaded from its page — keep a copy, as the download stays open only until 30 days after the show closes.
If a piece doesn’t arrive, isn’t what its page described, or its file won’t open, tell us from the piece’s page within 21 days of paying. We look into it with the artist; when you’re right, we refund you and take the money back from the artist’s payout. The artist can also refund you at any time.
The Auctionarium
The Auctionarium is a marketplace: each lot is sold by its seller to the winning bidder. TMS runs the sales, takes the payments and keeps its fees, but isn’t the seller and doesn’t own the lots.
Bidding
To bid you register a card with us (through Stripe); it is charged only if you win. You must be 18 or older.
A bid is a binding offer to buy at that price. You set the most you’ll pay and we bid for you, only as much as it takes to lead, up to that maximum. A bid in the last 2 minutes adds 2 minutes. A lot with a reserve isn’t sold below it.
When a lot closes, the winner’s card is charged at once: the hammer price, the buyer’s premium of 10%, the delivery the seller set for your region and any Canadian sales tax. If the charge fails you have 48 hours to pay through the link we send; after that the lot can go to the next bidder, and we may stop you bidding.
If the winner doesn’t pay, the next-highest bidder can be sold the lot at their maximum bid or the winning price, whichever is lower: their card is charged and we email them.
Where the seller isn’t registered for GST/HST, TMS collects the sales tax due on a lot delivered in Canada, as the law requires of marketplaces. A seller who is registered charges it themselves.
Selling
The public sales are for Grid creatives selling their own work: original works, limited editions and digital originals. Anyone with an account can book a salon and sell their own pieces in a private sale, open to every registered bidder or only to the people they invite.
You must own what you sell and have the right to sell it, and describe it truthfully with your own photographs. Never anything on the Auctionarium’s list of things that never go under the hammer (it is shown when you send a lot). Every lot is checked before it sells. A lot’s photographs are deleted 30 days after it doesn’t sell, is withdrawn or is turned down; a sold lot keeps them with the sale’s record.
TMS’s commission is 10% of the hammer price in the public sales and 5% in salon sales; a salon costs C$60 a sale. The winner pays you through Stripe, straight to your payout account, less TMS’s share — a lot can’t sell until your payout account is ready.
Ship within the shipping time you set on the lot (30 days at most), counted from being paid, packed with care, with tracking where the carrier offers it, and add the tracking to the lot. A digital original comes with the file and the rights its listing describes.
When something goes wrong
If a lot doesn’t arrive, or isn’t what its listing described, tell us from your account within 21 days of paying. We look into it with the seller; when the buyer is right, we refund the buyer and take the money back from the seller’s payout.
A buyer who refuses a lot that matches its listing isn’t refunded.
We may cancel a sale, withdraw a lot or refuse a bid that breaks these terms or the law. Anything already paid for a lot that is withdrawn is refunded in full.
The Koilon
The Koilon is The Grid’s live theatre. Companies rent its stage to put on their shows; the audience comes in with tickets, or watches online when the company streams. TMS runs the theatre and takes the payments; each show is its company’s own.
Renting the stage
Anyone with a creative, client or explorer account can ask for the stage, by the hour: show slots (with an audience) and rehearsal slots (the house shut), once or every week, at least a day ahead and up to six months ahead. The rates are the ones the box office shows when you ask.
A request holds its dates for 72 hours while the theatre’s team looks at it. Once it is approved you have 48 hours to pay; if you don’t, the dates go back. Nothing is charged before you pay, and paying confirms the booking.
For each slot your company has a crew room backstage, from the crew call (an hour before a show) until half an hour after it. The people you name in your company — by their username, or by email — share the stage and backstage with you. Someone you invite by email signs up as a creative with that address; like every creative’s, their account is approved by our team first.
Your show is yours, and so is the responsibility for it. Perform only material you have the right to perform — scripts, music, recordings and anything else in it — and keep to the rules for everyone. The theatre’s team can stop a performance that breaks these terms, and walk out of the house anyone who does.
Posters, the headline picture and pictures for the stage’s screen are shown only after our team approves them, and only if you have the right to use them. They are deleted 30 days after your booking’s last slot.
You choose whether your show is listed on the Koilon’s web pages, which search engines and AI assistants can find: its title, kind, company name, dates, prices and approved poster, never your own name. It isn’t listed unless you switch it on, and it comes off when you switch it off.
Call off a slot from your booking a day or more ahead: its rent comes back less its share of the card fee, and everyone with a ticket for it is refunded in full. Inside the day it stays on. If we call it off, the rent and the tickets come back in full.
Selling tickets
Your shows are free, or priced by seat zone (the stalls, the dress circle, the boxes) in your own currency; to charge for them you need a Stripe payout account. The company sells the tickets; TMS takes the payment and keeps its share (20% unless your booking shows otherwise), and the rest goes into your Stripe account.
Where you aren’t registered for GST/HST, TMS adds and collects the sales tax due on a ticket bought from Canada; if you are registered, you charge it yourself, inside your price.
Streaming and recording
You choose whether your shows stream online, and at what price. An online ticket lets one account watch the performance on a TV in The Grid or full screen while it is on.
Your performances are recorded unless you switch recording off for your booking: what your company does on the stage and their voices, kept 30 days and then deleted. You choose who can watch again — your company, that night’s audience, or anyone who buys an online ticket — and you can delete a recording at any time. Make sure everyone on your stage knows; we tell the people you name in your company when they’re added.
Going to a show
A ticket is a seat at one performance (up to 8 in one purchase); you can pass a seat to a friend. The house opens half an hour before curtain, and goes quiet once the show starts.
Give a ticket back 24 hours or more before the performance for a full refund, or move it to another performance of the same show. Inside 24 hours you can move it; if no other performance is left, half comes back. If a performance is called off, you are refunded in full.
Performers can hear the house react and may invite someone in the audience to speak. The company and our team can ask anyone who disturbs a performance to leave the house, without a refund.
Services we rely on
TMS works with other companies — Stripe and Square for payments, YouTube for videos and music in The Grid, OpenAI for AI features, and the others listed in our Privacy Policy. Their own terms cover what they provide; YouTube’s Terms of Service apply when you watch YouTube in The Grid. Links to other sites (brands, restaurants, news publishers) are there for you, but we don’t control those sites.
TMS may sometimes be unavailable, for maintenance or for problems we can’t control. We work to keep it running but can’t promise it will never be interrupted. We keep improving TMS and may change, add or remove features; we tell you before a change affects something you have paid for.
Our responsibility to you
We provide TMS with reasonable care and skill. Beyond that, and as far as the law allows, TMS is provided as it is: we don’t promise that any creative’s work, any person’s conduct, or any result — sales, views, hires — will meet your expectations.
We are not responsible for what other people say, post or do on TMS, or for loss from an agreement between users, unless we were at fault.
As far as the law allows, our total liability to you for all claims is limited to the greater of what you paid TMS in the 12 months before the claim and CA$100, and we are not liable for indirect loss (such as lost profit or lost data) that wasn’t a foreseeable result of our breach.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law doesn’t allow to be limited, such as for our fraud or gross negligence, or takes away a consumer’s rights under Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act, 2002.
If you use TMS for a business, you will cover our reasonable costs from a claim by someone else that comes from your content, your ads, your products or your breach of these terms.
Ontario law and settling disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
Tell us first: most problems are solved fastest through the Help Desk or at info@multimedia.studio. If we can’t solve it, either of us can go to the courts of Ontario; a claim within its limit can go to the Small Claims Court.
If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms takes away the rights Ontario’s Consumer Protection Act, 2002 gives you, including your right to take a claim to court and to join a class action.
If a court decides part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a part straight away, we can still do so later. You may not transfer these terms to someone else; we may transfer them to a company that takes over TMS, and your rights stay the same. These terms, the Privacy Policy and anything written into a brief are the whole agreement between us about TMS.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as TMS changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. For a change that matters, we tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before it takes effect. A change never applies to something you have already paid for: a rental, booking, ticket or brief keeps the terms it was bought under. If you don’t agree with a change, you can close your account before it takes effect.
