The Grid’s auction house: timed online sales of original art and collectibles made by Grid creatives, in the Grand Saleroom, and two salons anyone can book for a private sale.
The next sale is being prepared — its lots appear here when it is announced.
How it works
Register once — save a card with the house (it is charged only if you win).
Set your highest bid — the house bids for you, only as much as it takes to stay ahead, up to your maximum.
Soft close — a bid in the last two minutes adds two minutes; the lots close one a minute apart.
Winning — your card is charged the hammer price, a 10% buyer’s premium and any Canadian sales tax; the seller ships the piece to you.
Sell
Grid creatives send their own work for the public sales: original works, limited editions and digital originals, from C$20 to open. Each lot is checked by the team. Commission: 10%. Anyone with an account can book a salon (C$60 a sale, 5% commission) for a private sale, open to every registered bidder or by invitation only.
Across the court
The Mouseion, the Grid’s free museum of world art, under the glass emblem — the Passage stairs lead down to it from the Auctionarium’s door.
Questions people ask
What is the Auctionarium?
The Grid’s auction house, on Emblem Court across from the Mouseion: timed online auctions of original art, limited editions and digital originals made by Grid creatives, and salons anyone can book for a private sale.
Who can sell?
In the public sales: Grid creatives, selling their own work, each lot checked by the team. Anyone with an account can book a salon and sell their own pieces in a private sale.
How does bidding work?
Register a card once. Then set the most you’ll pay: the house bids for you, only as much as it takes to stay ahead. A bid in the last two minutes adds two minutes; lots close one a minute apart.
What does it cost?
Bidding is free. The winner pays the hammer price plus a 10% buyer’s premium (and Canadian sales tax where it applies). Sellers pay 10% commission in public sales and 5% in salon sales; a salon costs C$60 a sale.
How is the winner charged and the seller paid?
When a lot closes, the winner’s card is charged automatically and the money goes straight to the seller’s payout account, less the house’s share. The seller ships the piece to the winner.
What never goes under the hammer?
Anything that isn’t the seller’s own, copies and fakes, weapons, ivory and other protected species, cultural property, stolen goods, adult items and anything illegal to sell.
