The Mouseion · The Season · Snow and Silence
Winter in art, from Bruegel to Hiroshige
A hushed exhibition for the coldest month: frozen canals and skaters, village roads under snow, temples in a blizzard, and the strange blue light of a winter afternoon. Painters and printmakers in Europe, Japan and America all wanted to paint silence.
In The Season’s hall, off the Hall: January 2026.
The works are chosen when the exhibition is hung, a few days before it opens.
Every work in the Mouseion is a real piece, out of copyright everywhere, shown from the open collections of the museums that hold it — each label names the original’s museum and links to its page there.
